Deadpool and Wolverine Review

Is this a mega smash and triumphant return for Logan and Wade, or is it dead on arrival?

“It will have no effect of the events of Logan” - Kevin Feige

This follows the events of Deadpool 2 where Wade has left the world of heroing behind to live a normal life. But this doesn’t work the way he wanted it to. From his girlfriend leaving him, to other unfortunate events that leave him questioning things. But, all of that is turned upside down when the TVA takes hold of him, offering him a spot on the sacred timeline, but learns of their plans to dissolve the universe due to the loss of the anchor being Logan. Yes that Logan from the perfect 2017 film. Wade decides this will not happen, and wants to replace that Logan; and takes hold of the TempPad escaping the TVA on a search for a new Logan. During his search he comes across many variants, and ultimately ends up in the Void. Where he and Logan are stuck, but how will they escape. Here he comes across some Fox characters Electra (Jenifer Garner, Gambit (Channing Tatum), X-23 (Dafne Keen), Blade (Wesley Snipes), and Johnny Storm (Chris Evans). Together they must fight Cassandra Nova (Professor X’s sister).

A lot of this film is a blur and a lot of it I wish I could forget; but mainly I wish I never saw this movie. But for purposes of this review, this film was a snooze fest, with a story line that made no sense, and ruins the ending of Logan. I mean come on, they replace that Logan with a new Logan in the SAME universe. What aggravated me is they iced out his love interest, almost completely removing her from the film. His whole motivation, is her; so to leave her out makes no sense. Another factor of the story or script I should say that aggravates me the most is the mountains of writers and Ryan Reynolds adding so many childish jokes because he had nothing of value to add to the story. This man has single handedly ruined Wolverine and Hugh Jackman for me; and takes away any desire to see a Marvel film moving forward. Other than Thunderbolts*

I was absolutely horrified by the visual effects, and lack of story. Even the acting was subpar. For example, that was not Johnny Storm, that was just Chris Evans with his Boston accent. It was so incredibly lazy, and learning that Ryan offered him queue cards tells me a lot about this film. It was lazily done, with no passion, love, or care for any of the characters or story. Let’s not forget the villain, which was bland and offered nothing to the story. Oh and the suits, yeah those were bad. There was a reason we never say Wolverine in the yellow until now.

They relied on lazy nostalgia, plethora of cameos, and lazy filmmaking to push this one out. Shame on Marvel, and Kevin Feige. I would say shame on Ryan Reynolds, but that man can’t act nor has he ever cared about making a GOOD film. Don’t get me wrong I love movies, I do not hate fun; but this was a horrible film and the worst Marvel film ever made. I am beyond tired of the Multiverse, these cameos, and nostalgia. Marvel you have other characters you can build off of. You need to stop relying on the old and move on with new stories with actual filmmakers and give them the freedom to make stories.

Overall 0.5/5 I only enjoyed the montage at the end.
