Mr. Crocket Review
The best way to describe this film is Nightmare On Elm Street meets Mr. Rogers. Well, except the difference is Mr. Crocket is targeting parents he deems as, “bad". The opening to this film hooked me immediately. Original horror concepts like this is exactly what we need more of.
After Major's father passes away, Summer (his mother) puts him onto Mr. Crocket's TV show when he begins acting out around the house. When Mr. Crocket senses that kids are in danger that's when he arrives (through their TV screen) to protect them. Unlike, Nightmare On Elm Street where Freddy Kruger's humor is there to break the creepiness, Mr. Crocket's sense of humor is creepy and haunting throughout the whole film. After Mr. Crocket takes Major with him Summer is forced to team up with an unlikely ally in Rhonda, a mom who was driven insane when her son is taken by Mr. Crocket.
You would think that Mr. Crocket is there to protect the children and while that is true, his childhood trauma is just breaking up happy homes. While, the CGI might not be the best, however, the production design, practical effects and the cinematography are excellent and makes this a lot more haunting. I learned two things about this film: not everyone is cut out to be parents and if you are one then you definitely shouldn’t take it for granted.
