Celebrating Wonder Woman Day: Top 5 Comics To Read

5. Wonder Woman: Hiketeia

Now Wonder Woman: Hiketeia isn’t my favorite Wonder Woman comic but it is still an enjoyable story. The Princess of Themyscira is entrusted to care and protect and young women named Danielle Wellys after she hunts down and kills her sisters abuser and killer in cold blood. With Batman looking to take her in for her actions, Wonder Woman has to decide rather to honor the Hiketeia and protect Danielle against Batman and the Erinyes or turn her in for her crimes. P.S. She also stomps Batman out in this story, which is enjoyable for me.

4. Justice League #13 & #14, "The Secret Of The Cheetah" & "The Truth Behind The Cheetah"

Even though this is a Justice League comic this story is solely focused on Diana and Barbara Minerva transformation into the Cheetah. Diana and Barbara were very close friends and was the very first friend Diana ever made. However, after Barbara is cut by a ritual dagger from a lost tribe trying to identify it (Her job was identifying dangerous artifacts at A.R.G.U.S.) she is corrupted the, "Goddess of Hunt" and becomes the Cheetah. This two part arc shows the compassion that Diana has towards others. Even though I'm not a fan of Superman and Wonder Woman being a couple I do like how they are able to relate to each other on a more human level by Superman reminding her that even though they fight to save the earth there is still good in the world.

3. Wonder Woman - Paradise Lost

This is a crossover event featuring Wonder Woman and the Batfamily. When Poison Ivy's mind is corrupted by Maxie Zeus they plot to corrupt the minds and the collect their psychic energies of the lower class citizens of Gotham through the something called the, "golden apples of discord". Despite, Batman's wishes to go at it alone this is beyond something that he can handle himself. Demios, god of terror takes over Jokers body, Eris goddess of discord takes over Ivy's body and Phobos god of fear takes over Scarecrow's body. Their ultimate goal is to rebuild Gotham under their father Ares, vision which is consist of a world ruled by gods/goddesses.

This is nonstop action that tackles the subject of religion really well. While, Wonder Woman believes in religion and Batman still respects Wonder Woman's beliefs without tearing her down for it. Meanwhile, the opposite is said about Zeus, Demios, Eris and Phobos who try to corrupt even the Dark Knight's mind with religion.

2. Wonder Woman: Odyssey

Why you should read it: Wonder Woman Odyssey is a tale about Wonder Woman's legacy. When Wonder Woman discovers that there are some of her remaining people still alive it's up to her to rescue them and find out what happened to Paradise Island. What I love about this story is Wonder Woman hasn't fully understood how important her heritage is and she doesn't have the confidence in herself she normally has.

With a new suit Wonder Woman is determined to get revenge of the people that destroyed Paradise Island and killed her mother. It's a great story about Wonder Woman learning to overcome her hate and not let it consume her so she can become the hero she was destined to be. This story takes place pre-new 52 and Wonder Woman's origin is completely rebooted along with a costume change. It was short lived before it was rebooted again with the new 52 but it is still worth a read.

1. Sensational Wonder Woman

Sensational Wonder Woman is a 12 issue comic run celebrating the Princess of Themyscira. The artwork is great and it's what can make or break a story in my opinion. Each run depicts a different story of Wonder Woman. This is less about action, saving someone and more about the impact that she has on people. Please, do not skip over this because it is very informative on Wonder Woman from a outsiders perspective and you should ve able to breeze through all of this in a day considering it's not that long of a comic.
