His Three Daughters Review
Emotionally destroyed yet, a freeing experience. Natasha Lyonne, Elizabeth Olsen, and Carrie Coon star as a trio of sisters who come together after their father’s illness takes a turn. A turn that would have them confronting their relationship, life and death. 2 sisters by blood, and one by marriage. They each have they own lives and own problems. But, will they come together one last time as their father slowly passes away. Each a star in their own right, they offer emotional, genuine, and powerful performances that left me sobbing by the end.
There was an exceptional use of a confined space to make for an emotional and beautiful story. This film reminds me how much I love smaller/Indies. Because they can do so much with so little. One small add that I loved, was the 2 sisters speaking gibberish, which really added to the authentic elements in the film. I would be shocked if all 3 weren’t nominated award season.
Compelling performance from Elizabeth Olsen, whose character seems to be living a “perfect” life, with a young daughter and husband. She offered many moments that made me really connect with her character. Reminds, me how much I love her in non MCU films/shows. Because, she can really showcase her raw talent.
Natasha Lyonne’s character is the middle sister who’s living with their father and trying to help him, but when her sisters show up. She seemingly shuts down and doesn’t know how to react, or behave. Carrie Coon’s character, the oldest sister who has a life of her own in Brooklyn. But, seemingly doesn't want to face the reality that her father is passing. In the end they come together and sing a heart wrenching song, that connects them and comforts them.
Overall 5/5
