Why The Batman Is The Perfect Halloween Film
Yes, in my opinion I do think that Matt Reeves, The Batman is a Halloween film. One thing that Christopher Nolan failed to capture in The Dark Knight trilogy was making Gotham City a character. With this film Gotham City literally feels like a character from the beautiful cinematography to it's production design and even the characters. When I watched this film for the first time it felt like I was playing the Arkham video games all over again.
Matt Reeves being influenced by movies like Se7en & Zodiac when it comes to this cat and mouse game between Batman and The Riddler makes this film feel like a psychological thriller at times. Batman and Gordon's partnership actually reminds me a lot of Somerset and Mills from Se7en. This film is a combination of Batman: The Animated Series and the Arkham video games when it comes to the tone of the film. The Joker isn't the only villain in Batman's Rogue gallery that kills people and it's a sight to see a fresh take on The Riddler with a phenomenal actor portraying him in Paul Dano.
Aside from the tone of the film, even just by looking at the picture up above trust me when I say you would not want to run into this vigilante in a back alley. The Score is dark and suspenseful and Matt Reeves choice for Nirvana's, Something In The Way as the theme for the film was an excellent one. This is also one of the first Batman films narrated by The Dark Knight himself. I put Matt Reeves The Batman in two categories: a comic book film and a Halloween film.
