Why Physical Media Matters

I can't personally speak for everyone, but when COVID happened and we were forced to be inside, I developed a hobby of collecting things. I was watching everyone showing off their vinyl collections, comics, dvds, Blu-ray's, 4k's, etc. Not only that, but a lot of TV shows getting canceled/postponed during lockdown didn't help either.

There are several reasons why you should still collect physical media. Personally, for me, I like to hold my favorite movies/albums/TV shows in my hands. A lot of streaming services also don't offer what physical media does when it comes to your favorite movie & TV shows: deleted scenes, bloopers, directors cut, and the quality. Christopher Nolan is a great director whose film isn't compatible with streaming services. With films such as Dunkirk, Nope, The Batman, and Top Gun: Maverick, should be consumed on a Blu-ray or 4k. Streaming services tend to compress the quality of a lot of films, and it doesn't give it the same kind of cinematic feel.

A lot of people also seem to think that if you buy a movie/TV show online that you automatically 'own' it. However, that couldn't be further from the truth. Those websites and streaming services can easily take down anyone of your favorite TV shows or films that's not made for that service. If there is a physical copy of a streaming service TV show or film I will find it on Ebay/Amazon. The Final reason why physical media matters is the increasing price on streaming service.

Every few months rather it's, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc. The price keeps increasing for medicore projects that a lot of subscribers are disappointed by. Examples, the final season of Umbrella Academy, a lot of the MCU live action shows, Wednesday and much more. So when it comes to physical media it will always reign Supreme. Besides, you don't need Wi-Fi or any internet connection to pop in a DVD.
