Absolute Superman #1 Review
I had no expectations going into this at all. The hype is definitely real with Absolute series so far and I've only read the first edition so far. Now while some aspects of Superman remain the same like his sense of morality, his origin and the civilization of Krypton is drastically changed. In Absolute Superman Krypton is a beautiful civilization where everyone is separated by class from the distinction of their uniforms. The scientist of Krypton are considered the upper class while at the bottom of the list is the labor guild.
Unlike, his original origin story Kal-el childhood was spent on Krypton before being sent to Earth so he has a deeper connection with his birth parents. This is one of the few Superman stories where he feels more like, “Kal-el” than “Clark Kent” because of him being raised on Krypton. I feel as if this is the story Zack Snyder wanted to tell for Man Of Steel but it ultimately fell flat due to the fact that their was no key element of Superman in that film and it's too depressing for a Superman story. What makes this version great is while Kal-el feels more alien than human there are still aspects of Superman that are still in there. Kal-el wants to help but with him not being able to fully master his powers he might be doing more harm than good.
In this first edition Kal-el feels more like a drifter. While, Kal-el is more alien than human and he is still trying to get a grasp on human life and adjust to his powers. I’m also a big fan of the suit as well. Superman's suit is like an extra layer of protection but something tells me that his suit is doing much more than just protecting him. We also have a look at Lois Lane who works for Lazarus Corp and I absolutely love this change of character for Lois.
