Novocaine Review
Novocaine is an action/comedy film starring Jack Quaid (The Boys, Scream & Companion) and Amber Midthunder who previously starred in Prey. How does Jack Quaid keep getting paired with the very talented, beautiful actresses? Melissa Barrera in Scream, Sophie Thatcher in Companion and now Amber Midthunder in Novocaine. Aside from that Novocaine is about a bank teller named Nathan Caine who can't feel pain that has to save the girl of his dreams when a bank robbery goes horribly awry.
Sherry (played by Amber Midthunder) is much more than a damsel in distress. The trailers make you belive it's your stereotypical “damsel in distress” film where the male protagonist rescues the woman and they live happily ever after. If you think that then unfortunately you would be wrong because what this film does with Sherry turns the “damsel in distress” trope on it's head. Everyone has skeletons in their closet and when you find out about Sherry's you begin to wonder if she is actually the person she says that she is.
To my surprise (not really) Jack Quaid has excellent chemistry with Amber Midthunder. I’m not sure what it is but he has this ability to make me feel like I’m actually watching a real couple on screen no matter who he is paired with. Their is slow motion in this scene but unlike but it doesn't feel cheesy or forced because it's not overdone. The action sequences are a lot of fun and very humorous. Definitely, check this out you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
