Elevation Review

Spoilers!

A sprinkle of World War Z, I am Legend, and A Quite Place. While post apocalyptic, there is still a sense of humanity, of community in an uncertain world. What is it are they fighting? In a society overrun by mysterious monsters with a weakness for higher elevation, survivors will need to venture down as supplies dwindle. Staring Anthony Mackie (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), Morena Baccarin (Deadpool), and is directed by George Nolfi (Bourne Ultimatum, Ocean's Twelve, The Banker).

This was a pleasant surprise of a film, and made me realize that I need Anthony Mackie in more films like this. The story follows 3 characters as they venture down to Boulder for supplies that would help his son, and a side mission for Morena’s character to get to her lab. They are in a battle against these unknown monsters that just won’t die, but oddly they refuse to venture above 8,000 ft. We don’t quite figure out why, or where they came from, or what their motive is; which opens up for a possible sequel.

Moreno’s character is a researcher who wants to discover how to kill them, and where they came from. But will she? Or will she die in the process? I am compelled to want a sequel, but I do feel it could have been wrapped up in a 2+ hour film. It wasn’t long enough for me, and the build up wasn’t all there. Still it makes for an enjoyable watch that will keep you stressed, and potentially wanting more. I can see a possibility for a sequel to dive more into these characters, and working up to the source of these monsters.

Overall 3.5/5
