After Laura’s life seems to fall apart, from recovering from cancer to her boyfriend (Jacob) breaking up with her. She has lost her voice, but will she find it? As she comes home from the hospital to what she thinks is an empty home gets a freight of her life from “Monster” who has been living there since Laura was a child. Kind of her protector, but also the monster you’d find in the closet or under your bed. Somewhat enemies to lovers, when Monster tries to kick her out but slowly comes friends. His heart begins to soften for her. But what she doesn’t realize how much Monster actually cares for her. Which begins to develop into so much more than they could ever imagine.
He helps her to stand up against Jacob (her ex), and helps her to realize she is worth so much more than she thinks. As the story progresses we see Laura get back into her old singing and acting when she shows up to audition for Jacob’s show, that he happen to have wrote for her. After he broke up with her while she had cancer he continues to develop the show without her. But little did he know she’d show up. Though she doesn’t land the lead role, she is understudy. Making things awkward and then unleashing fury on Jacob. As she gets fired, the lead actress comes to talk with her. Leading to the plan to step in without Jacob’s knowledge. So many thing in this story that gets me to absolutely hate him and love Monster even more.
He does a good job at getting the audience to hate him, and she helps us to fall in love with her and Monster. So many comedic moments, singing, monologues, and exceptional chemistry bring this story together. Though I would have changed the ending a little, without giving up too much of the story I’ll keep the ending to myself. This is scary but not jump scare scary which I appreciated. I loved how they leaned on the romcom and enemies to lovers side more. Melissa is the stand out for me, and makes me want to see her in more romcoms. Really anything, because I really just love her as an actress.
Since I first say clips of this in July I was hooked. I’d like to thank Pixel Media and Vertical Entrainment for allowing me to catch and early screening of this. It’s definitely a film worth seeing in theaters, and I will be seeing this again.
Overall 4.5/5
