The Penguin Episode 1: "After Hours" Review
The Penguin picks up a week right after the events of Matt Reeves The Batman. The city is up for grabs as The Penguin looks to take his rightfully spot as the kingpin of Gotham. After Penguin stops a group of teenagers from stealing the rims off of his car, he holds one of the kids hostage (Victor Aguilar) and blackmails/threatens him to help cover up his actions unless he wants to die.
With the Falcone's out of the picture The Penguin takes looks to take over and expand the drops business. However, that's easier said than done when Sofia Falcone is released from Arkham Asylum and threatens to expose The Penguin’s plans. Cristin Milioti is an absolute great foil to Colin Ferrell's Penguin. She is so menacing that she makes her father and brother look like puppies compared to her.
The set pieces are great and Gotham feels completely different. While, the night scenes are still covered in danger and fear, the morning scenes feels like a beautiful and joyful. Even if they're is still crime taking place during the day it doesn't feel like the characters lives are in danger. This was a great start to the series and I can't wait to see what happens in the next episode.
Overall: 5/5
