Power Rangers Legendary Battle: What Went Wrong
Today marks the 10th anniversary of the season finale of Super Megaforce's “Legendary Battle" which celebrated the 20th anniversary of Power Rangers which featured several appearances from returning Rangers from various seasons. However, this is regarded as one of the worst Power Ranger crossovers. But why is that? There are several reasons for this so get out a pen because you’ll need it.
For starters, the previous season foreshadowed this event happening in a dream that Troy (this seasons Red Ranger) had in the very first episode. It made little to no sense as to why he would have that dream other than to get fans excited about the event itself. It doesn't help that for an anniversary season like Super Megaforce that the tribute episodes for certain seasons weren't handled very well. Honestly, a big event like this either should’ve been a TV film or should’ve happened in the middle of the season.
What makes matters worse is that with an half-hour show like Power Rangers the episode didn't even address how certain Rangers got their powers back or heard about the invasion from the Armada. I still believe this should’ve been a 3-part finale episode with more in depth information about how the Legendary Rangers got their powers back and them interacting more with each other. The only interaction the Megaforce Rangers had with the Legendary Rangers was when the battle took place and we don’t even see a morph sequence of them all together.
Another major problem with this anniversary is that the returning Legendary Rangers don’t have any physical fight scenes and they appearance is regulated to a helmet less cameo with little to no dialogue. Their were some Rangers that were invited and either declined because of Union reasons (Power Rangers being non union until around 2020) or they were too busy. Rhett Fisher the Titanium Ranger from Lightspeed Rescue said, “yes" to return but was uninvited at the last minute due to budget cuts. Not only is this anniversary episode a disrespectful to the Fandom that was anticipating the event but also very disrespectful to the Rangers themselves.
